Today, DESSO Group announces the acquisition of Enia Carpet NL Holding BV. The acquired profitable activities of Enia Carpet NL Holding BV had sales of € 50 million in 2009. Enia Carpet NL Holding BV develops, manufactures, markets and sells high end consumer carpet mainly in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Austria under the Parade and Bonaparte brand name as well as high end contract carpet for offices across Europe.
DESSO Group CEO Stef Kranendijk: ‘We welcome the professional people of Enia to further strengthen our combined business. With the acquisition of the great Parade and Bonaparte brands, DESSO Group, together with its own Desso consumer carpet brand will become market leader in the Dutch consumer carpet market. In addition, Parade is the only truly European high end consumer carpet brand with sales in Benelux, Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria.’
Increase of market share and profitability
Desso closed 2009 in a positive way, significantly increasing market share and profitability both in the carpet and artificial grass market for the third consecutive year despite a difficult market. This acquisition further strengthens Desso’s position in the European carpet market. Desso is already one of the leading European players in the carpet market for Offices and has a strong global position in the carpet market for Hotels, Cruise Ships and Aviation.
With this acquisition, Desso now also starts to become an important player in the consumer carpet market with a number 1 position in the Netherlands and a number 2 position in Germany. The definitive transaction is still depending on a final approval from the NMA (Dutch Competition Authority) and positive advice from both Works Councils.
Cradle to Cradle
Desso is committed to make sure all its products are Cradle to Cradle by 2020. In 2010 Desso aims that 75 % of all their carpet tiles will be Cradle to Cradle certified. Already now around 25% of all carpet tiles have a Cradle to Cradle certificate. This year further significant progress in this area will be announced both in the carpet and artificial grass divisions.
Obviously, Desso will now also start making the acquired consumer carpet products Cradle to Cradle. To this end a plan will be developed to ensure Desso meets its goal in this area.
